History of the residence
The amazing view of the landscape and the Orlicke Hory mountains from Horicky is very well known. The view and the hospitability of the local people may have been the reasons that made the head of the Ministry of Justice sell and field from Mr Wand and have a family residence built there. The residence was designed by the architect Jarolimek from Dvur Kralove n. Labem and built in 1930-1931.
Emerich Polak, and lawyer, was born in 1866 in Lomnice nad Popelkou. After finishing his studies at the Law Faculty in Vienna, he made a career as the head of the Supreme Court in Prague and after the 1918 revolution he helped to create the law system of the Czechoslovac Republic.
Both from Vienna and from Prague he used to arrive this Horicky, where he spent the whole summer in the residence with his family.
Emerich snake three sons and a daugther. The best-known is his eldest son, the doctor Emerich Polak, DrSc., famous for his operations of thyroid and of stomach and chest.
In 2009, the residence was reconstructed into a family hotel with the capacity of 6 double-bed rooms. The half of the rooms is furnished with the original antique furniture to keep the notion of the residence of the first half of the 20thcentury.
The residence was also enlarged by a restaurant with the capacity of 50 people, the place from which you can admire the amazing views of the surrounding landscape.
